ELLIS CHECKS-IN TO SECURE KING ABDULAZIZ AIRPORT ORDER

The world’s leading cable cleat manufacturer, Ellis has secured a major specification for its Emperor cleats to be installed in the new King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA), which is currently being built 19km north of the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah. The order was secured through the North Yorkshire company’s Saudi distributor, Riyadh-based Mena Arabia. Installation of the products is currently underway, and is scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2015 – with the airport expected to open at the end of the same year. When complete, the new KAIA will feature a 670,000 sq. m. passenger terminal complex with the capacity for 80million passengers a year – an increase of over 600 per cent on the current airport’s13million. Tony Conroy, export director for Ellis, said: “KAIA is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the world today and securing such significant involvement in it is a resounding endorsement of our strategy of appointing local distributors in key export markets.” “As with so many of the export orders we secure, the market knowledge and expertise our local distributor – in this case Mena Arabia – brought to the table proved absolutely vital in delivering the specification.” Designed for use where the highest levels of short circuit withstand are required, Ellis’ Emperor cable cleats were specified by Jeddah-based Inma Contracting, and are being installed in load centres (substations) and utility service tunnels throughout KAIA. Emperor cleats are available for both trefoil and single cable applications, and all products in the range are manufactured in type 316L stainless steel, meaning they provide ultimate corrosion protection. The benefits of the Emperor cleats also extend to a patented design, which makes installation quick and easy, and an integral LSF zero halogen polymeric liner and base pad that protects and cushions cables during short circuit conditions. “Our Emperor cleats have been tried, tested and have delivered in some of the most demanding environments on the planet,” added Tony Conroy. “They have also passed the most stringent of short-circuit tests, and safely secure cables in some of the largest developments of recent generations – as such they are a wholly trusted quantity, meaning people specify them safe in the knowledge they can be relied upon when called into action.” The new KAIA has been in development since 2006 and when complete will feature 46 contact gates, 94 boarding bridges, an internal automated people mover, a transportation centre complete with integrated rail station, over 60km of baggage belts, state-of-the-art air traffic control technology, and the kind of lounges, hotels, catering and retail facilities that will ensure it will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s best airports.
